+1. If very close to concept as Adrian said, then I'd be interested. If it's like the 8 series, then no.

You're judging the 8 series off a horrible spy cam shot ... doesn't seem fair

Oddly enough, the first picture reminded me a lot of the Fiat 124 spider!

Are we losing the iconic oo=00=oo headlight to grille arrangement we're accustomed to? That was the one thing about the concept that struck me as odd. The profile of the concept looks fantastic, I really hope it isn't too dumbed down in production.

I think that they cut the potential buyers in half by not offering a hardtop variant too. Not everyone lives in California or wants a summer toy...
I know several individuals that drive the previous model and bought it for versatility and the soft top is not desirable for none of them.

Shame that we are losing the iconic BMW double headlamps tradition

First thing I thought of as well. Hopefully it ends up being more handsome than that.

What the point in making a concept if you entirely abandon the body work?

Interesting comment, since the first dual headlight BMW was the 320i in 1975. For exceptions since then, check the 8-series, Z1, and Z8.

I'm assuming this is the M40i?

The concept looks like M Sport trim. This test car has many of the "SE" spec BMW hallmarks. If you look past them it actually seems to be quite close to the concept car. Can't wait to see the M Sport. I hope they don't prove me wrong!!

As I was writing!! That looks lovely. Just what I was saying.. the SE trim makes the cars a lot softer round the edges ect where as the M Sports have the sharper lines on the bumpers.

If you look under the camo, it is pretty understated compared to the concept. You can see the mirrors are standard BMW parts bin, and the partially covered head and tail lights have a less pronounced shape if you compare carefully. Also, the bumpers look less edgy than the concept, unless there's going to be an m sport model with more aggressive styling on the fenders.

I don't believe those are the final units. They are just place holders from the current 3 series.

The grill is also from a 4 series and not the edgier grill on the concept.

Man my first impression is that everything I like about the exterior design on the concept is massively muted to non-existent on this camo'd mule - potential to be a major disappointment here for me!
