Anything below MSRP is fantastic. I didn't even bother asking TBH.

I got 5% off MSRP before ordering my M40i last August on a dealer with no history, paying cash, no addons.

I'm guessing demand for the manual might make that a bit more challenging before this summer though.

Dude is orgasmic as he reaches 25 mph. Cracks me up. It does look notchier. Man, gonna have to get me one of these one day.

Yeah, could be. I got 3.5% of last January. Good news is most of the crazy markups have seemed to disappear, and I'm seeing some discounts on stuff now.

Rev match assist and gear number displayed in the dash. How did we ever managed to live without this crap?

You can turn off rev match- I assume, since all other current BMW manuals allow for this - and what’s wrong with the gear on the dash? Even the automatics have this. You can flip through different views anyway. The upshift recommendation can be turned off as well.

There is an old aviation principle, that BMW used to adhere to, and which was at the center of SAAB design philosophy, when SAAB was still a thing. It is called "vital instrumentation display". Show only things that are critical for safe and efficient operation of the machinery. In case of a car: speedo, tach, oil temp, fuel gauge. Perhaps TPMS. The rest is superfluous, distractible and inherently unsafe to display.

When I special ordered my (otherwise loaded to the brim) F10, I purposely excluded the 6wa instrument cluster. Riding loaners over the years I watched in horror every new monstrosity introduced since: first 6wb, then this current freakish digital thing with tachometer in the crooked shape with fake needle going backward.

And it's not like BMW doesn't know how to do this right: If I turn steering wheel heating on, the message will come on momentarily and then fade away, but when drive selector is switched to Sport, the bloody SPORT stays on forever. It carries no information whatsoever. Or that stupid blue fuel economy band that is in gross color disharmony with the red illumination of the cluster. Am I supposed to watch the blue ribbon intently to learn my dynamic gas saving of 0.01mpg or the dumpster truck pulling from a driveway a few yards ahead?

Perhaps BMW thinks that the way to go to compete for attention of Tiktok and Instagram influencers to corner penniless gen Z crowd. Perhaps BMW will even succeed.

Great info. I will say you can go to reduced mode, which is really basic. The gauges are ridiculous these days, I agree. The one view I like is the M sport mode with the map on the left so I can see what’s coming, and tach, oil temp, fuel on the right with digital Speedo center. If I know the road well, I go with G force just for fun. In the Z, you can’t do this but are stuck with the weird counterclockwise tach. When I talked to BMW about this - the engineering team asked for feedback - they said it was a common complaint not to have the digital analogue Speedo and tach. But they won’t do anything about it, sadly.

The HUD is a must for the shift lights.

These are the two in dash displays that are my defaults:

Z4 M40i

M4C

I use the HUD just about 100% of the time & use the main displays to fill in the blanks if a notice or warning comes up.

Best part was describing the shift/clutch feel during the 1 mile test drive.

I was about to shut video off as he did a full opening/closing of the top for no reason…..car has been out for 4 years, waste of time on that.

That, no doubt helpful, "M4" or "Z4 M40i" reminder at the top of the display: can it be turned off somehow? In the iDrive or by coding?

Can’t turn it off in iDrive (at least for the Z4. Can’t speak for the M4, but assuming no). I think you could code it out. I know it’s not there on the 30i models.

Have not tried to code them out, don't see any need to. Have coded out all factory loaded warnings & screen blocks with BimmerCode.

Extended the speedo range. Otherwise have left it pretty much as delivered. Personally have no issues with the graphics as I drive with the HUD.

A barren main display has no appeal or functional use for me.

If the screen offends you, you should be able to remove the M4 & Z4 logo using the advanced section of the software.

If not tape a piece of black cardboard over it.

For those who really want to live in the past build a custom display with just the basics.

I finally got to see a Z4 in person this weekend. It’s definitely fun to drive and sounds great but it felt a bit cheap inside. Being in the northeast, I’m not sure how much I’d enjoy the convertible and it looks so much nicer with the top down. I have a week 17 build and will be deciding tomorrow but I think I’ll be keeping the gt4 and continue to live off ramen noddles. I thought I’d like it more but maybe it’s just the nostalgia that’s bringing me back to one being that I’ve had four different Zs in the past.

You are one of the only people that has ever said that the interior of the G29 looks cheap inside. Please elaborate further.

I owned 3 convertibles when I lived in NYC from 1994 - 2017 (I moved to Florida in Dec. 2017) and weather permitting I always drove with the top down from early Spring to late Fall every year. I totally enjoyed driving them with my top down so I am trying to understand your comment.

Would the Z4 be an additional car or would the GT4 go away to make that happen?

I thought the same thing about a convertible, living in Chicago. Kept me from buying one more than once. But I’m glad I did. It’s quiet enough with the top up that it’s almost like a coupe anyway. But then you get that awesome feeling of being able to drive with the top down for about 1/2 the year. .

Lol. I’m not knocking the Z4 at all. I’ve had four ! The fake mesh looking trim bugged me with the black lines on it. I’d have to get piano black if I do go ahead. I also feel like people are crazier these days and idk how comfortable I’d feel in NYC with the top down. I’d probably save it for the suburbs.

The Gt4 would have to go bye bye since the whole point is cutting down my car payment. I daily an M2. If I could keep them all then it’s a no brainer.

But I did spot the roof open/close button has been moved away from the parking break

Is this a mod to all 24/25 cars?

Sorry if this has been pointed out before
