I will say the 718 was not only special to look at but awesome to drive hard. It just wasn't comfortable for everyday. As far as representing the brand, the 718 looks better than the 911 IMO.

Are there 3 different grille surrounds. The one above looks like chrome, I’ve seen grey and black. Does it depend on the year? I want grey to match the Cerium grey wheels. Thanks

Cerium is ... kind of a dull grayish gold color though. Looks different in person than it does in pics. Kinda like the NOT REALLY RED interior of my car. It's ORANGE.

Probably no way to avoid a sizable hit - even with a private sale - even in this market. Rationalize/justify as being arguably offset by future depreciation you won't realize with the Z4??

I suspect that model is a hard sell this time of year. A casual glance on AutoTrader shows them being offered for around $15K below MSRP so trade-in offer of $30K below MSRP doesn't seem to be too far off given that it's not going to be easy to turn it around quickly. Even recent model M40i Z4s are selling for $10K or more below MSRP. I was tempted to go that route myself, could have gotten into a low mileage M40i for what I paid for my new s30i.

Just my two cents. I hope you can work something out and find a way to get into a Z4 soon.

I installed those rock guards on my Z4 last weekend. My experience just about matches yours. I drilled one hole in the rear guards so the remaining holes would line up better. I also drilled an additional hole in the fronts so I could secure it with three of the rivets.

Hardest part is, if you don't take the rear wheels off the car (I didn't), getting tools to fit in the gap between the wheels and the wheel well. I had a tiny right-angle ratchet and screwdriver and it was still tight. Overall, though, an inexpensive, practical mod.

No I haven't, I have no interest in wholesaling it. I either need to retail it or trade at a reasonable amount. I do have it list here in the 8 section, and on a local forum.

Carmax paid me a few grand more than the dealer offered on a trade in so I sold my car to them. They give you a price quote that they hold for only 7 days but they honored it when I brought my old Mercedes in on the 7th day. It was a no fuss type of transaction so you may wish to consider checking them out. 😉

How did you mount the front ones? I tried getting the guard between the wheel well plastic liner and the body, but it simply won't go in neatly at the top. Definitely not enough to even get the top rivet in. Or did you put them on top of the plastic liner?

Have not tried the rears, yet, that'll be this weekend. Indeed, I may buy some RallyArmor oversized ones so that it goes under the car rear a bit more (seems to look a bit better from the rear, but not necessarily more practical, since it isn't a rally car yet!)

My personal experience with Carmax was pretty good when I sold a car to them several years ago. They gave me an offer in writing that none of the local dealerships could touch.

Before I accepted their offer I spoke to a friend of the family who has been in the auto biz for many decades and he said Carmax’s national network gives them some big advantages when it comes to arbitraging cars across regions. If you have a hot car, they will make you a decent offer.

Sure, I left some money on the table by not doing private sale, but I also saved myself the grief of having to deal with the a certain kind of person who would come looking for a test drive….

I understand that that can happen, but in my case they would have to give me $5k more than a dealer allowed to make up for the tax savings. Oh, I spent 20 years in dealership management.
