Z4 vs. Z8

I've been very impressed with my recently acquired 2023 Z4. Great quality, great ride. I'm wondering just how a Z4 stacks up against the Z8, which is one of the nicest sports cars ever produced IMHO. Has anyone had the chance to own both?

Drove a used one that Leith had for sale a 8 years ago. Would define it as a Cruiser/GT compared to the current generation of cars.

Performance wise the Z4 M40i is better on just about every measurement. When new the Z8 was a performance player in its time frame. Fit the BMW line where the M8 versions fit now.

There were no cars comparable to the current 840, M850 in the series . Very limited production only about 2500 out of 5700 made it to USA.

As for looks take your choice. The Z8 has IIHO very classic looks while the Z4 is a more modern take on a two seater.

FYI, the Z8 was essentially a 5-series chassis with a BMW 507 homage body on it.

Really cool car, I love to see them on the road, but not a thoroughbred sports car.

IMHO, no matter what the chassis is, the Z8 is one of the most beautiful cars ever made by BMW. 👍🏻

I saw this beauty at my dealer’s service department in Ft. Lauderdale last year.

I agree that they are absolutely beautiful sports cars. May be my favorite. I have never driven one and was curious if anyone had driven both a G29 Z4 and Z8. Back in 02 I had a chance to pick up a new Topaz Blue over Cream interior Z8 at a huge discount. Dealer could not sell the car. Who knew??????

Z8 still looks great all these years later. IMO when done right the more roundish lines make a car timeless. I think the Jag F-Type will always look good as well.
