I admit to not believing BMW would make this happen, but many thanks to them for coming through for the enthusiasts. I would absolutely order the manual if I was buying this car again. (Not that I haven't enjoyed the auto.)

Remote engine start and Active Cruise Control aren't available with the manual package.

Does anyone know if this will have auto-rev matching? I have this on my M2 and I love it.

It also forces you to take the piano-black trim on the interior and removes the option of 18" wheels, both of which are unfortunate.

Also, notably, you no longer need to get the interior lighting to get the Leather seats (and this seems to apply to the Automatic too).

The reviews have said that it does come with rev matching and that you can choose to disable it when you don’t want it active.

First question: Any reason to get the premium package?
- Remote engine start isn't an option. I don't believe parking Assistant will work with the manual. Ambient lighting can be added for only $250.
- Heated Steering Wheel, Comfort Access, and Lumbar support are all included on the M40i.
- Is the Heads up Display really worth $1,000? What am I missing?

Second question: Does the Alcantara/Leather option extend to the door panels like the '24 MY, or is it only on the seats like the Cognac leather in the press photos?

I think I found the answer on #2- the BMW DE Konfigurator photos show "Cognac Vernasca Leather with exclusive contrast detail and stitching" has black door inserts; "Black Alcantara Black Vernasa Leather with blue contrast stitching" has Alcantara inserts.

It is a head-turner, but the piano black interior trim is really annoying. Great out of the factory...

I’m not crazy about the piano black either, but I have survived with it for nearly 4 years with my Model Y and it doesn’t look bad. It doesn’t surprise me that they would only make one style since it is exclusive to the manual center console. I still placed my order today

Someone asked about the HUD, yes absolutely worth it! It will be very useful with a manual, you have the rev range in the display on windshield. I love it on my M40i.

Got confirmation from Horatiu that it does thankfully.

Look for the sentence just before the bold heading for “Staggered Wheels …”

It’s also in the Car and Driver article from December 11, 2023.

My F10 has the Nappa. It is very nice after the Dakota my E90 had. They don't have Dakota anymore, but I figure Vernasa must be the lowest of the low leather grade. Since there is no cloth, Alcantara is the only choice.

Hate to break it to you, but the alcantara is only on the door panels and the very top portion of the headrest area. It’s not on the actual seating surface.

I've had HUD on other vehicles and I do wish I had the HUD on my '22 s30i (not available on s30i at the time due to supply chain issues) but I wouldn't pay $1K for the HUD alone, maybe $500.

One and a half years after purchase, I consider it a want rather than a need. It doesn't really affect my pleasure quotient. The one thing I do really miss is a compass (apparently it can be displayed on the HUD).

I like to go out and get lost and then use the compass to find my way home but, without the HUD, there's no way to display it while using Carplay. I've heard that the compass can actually be coded to display on the instrument panel but I probably won't pursue that until after warranty expiration. It seems silly that they leave out the compass but perhaps it's only us old schoolers that use compasses these days.

I’d code that in

It’s not going to void your warranty

I coded the compass to display in the instrument cluster. I never turn it on, because the display is already cluttered with crap. Having it in the mirror was the best option.

Details on the coding? With Bimmercode, ISTA, or???

In the mirror? I don't think that's possible on the Z4 but, yes, I've had it in the rearview mirror of other vehicles and I used it.

So... For Cognac, it looks like one can get either the special seat with the "exclusive" stitching (I assume that's the black piping) or the more current version of the seats + cognac door inserts?

I have had the compass in the mirror in some cars and never really liked it as I felt it was distracting.

IMHO, the middle display is the perfect location.
