I'm not totally against that. Option is open.

But why doesn't BMW attack the Cayman market? Now since the 718 Cayman sounds like a Subaru, they could steal some sales on sound alone.
If the ragtop does well we will see a coupe simple as that.

If it doesn't we will not.

Oh, and BMW doesn't dare go after the 718 because no other car on Earth handles as well that costs under $160k. How exactly are the penny pinchers at BMW going to make something better than that?

As for the most recent rendering: As other posters have said, if it looks like that BMW will have a winner on its hands. But after the first year, I really hope it starts thinking about a coupe version, or sales will tail off quickly.

... 2nd place after the Cayman/Boxster would still be a really good place to be. Aim high

Q&A with Marc Girard, head of BMW Concept Design

How would you say the Concept Z4 differs from the outgoing model?

“The top topic when designing the car was the ‘Ultimate Driving Machine’. To make it more agile we reduced the wheelbase – from a semantic standpoint it clearly tells the story that the driver is in the middle of everything.”
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/z4/...est-mule-spied

Quote:
The Concept Z4 is bigger than the current model, with a longer wheelbase and wider tracks. BMW rethought the proportions in a bid to provide it with a more focused look. “A shorter bonnet and crisp overhangs ensure the driver sits closer to the centre of the car than in previous BMW roadsters,” said van Hooydonk.

cause wide gaps don't just occur on off-roading vehicles.

You cannot compare the timeless lines of the 507 to this...

I will claim that the 1st generation 8 series still looks better (except the rear lights) to this upcoming 8.
Wait... are we talking about the 8 or the Z4?

LOL, both ;-)

The detailing grill of the upcoming Z4 looks like a knock off of the MB "diamond" pattern by the way.

Kia did the floating dots thing first, actually.

...but who are we kidding, put a BMW grille on a Kia Rondo, bam, you get a 2-series Active Tourer. Everybody copies everyone.
