I understand that part of the criteria to qualify is a premium brand car ( BMW, Benz, Audi) that is a two door model. Theory being that you need the extra size space to open the doors wide.

A Porsche of any kind qualifies, a Cayenne is parked next to me, as does a Ford Mustang, a yellow one is parked behind me. Mind you, a Ford mustang is a USD150k car in Thailand.

Is the guy looking at the purple binder making the call about who gets to park in the Super Car spots? Is the purple binder a list of acceptable Super Cars?

I lived in the Western Pacific for 10+ years (Philippines, Guam, Japan), visited Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong many times back in the '80s. My son is half Filipino, his wife Thai, so I've been able to experience a bit of it. In the Philippines many years ago, I drove a Triumph TR7, a model not highly regarded these days but in the Philippines it was a super car. I lost count of the number of times I heard people yelling "Night Rider" as I drove by, something that amuses me to this day.

On our drive back from the PCD, we valet parked at the Marriott in downtown Little Rock (Yeah, I know, never valet. There were reasons--don't ask). The valet service put it in one of their "fancy car" spots out front, between a Ferrari and a high end AMG Merc.

They gave me a big grin when I came back to ask if I could retrieve an item from the car :-)

That guy is kind of the attendant. He moves the barrier to let you in, notes time of arrival and departure in the binder and takes a photo of the car.

So ya, he is one of the people enforcing the policy of which cars can park there. One of a team of 3/4 on duty at any given time. They also supervise the VIP slots.

That's cool lol! I understand the need for valet sometimes. Either parking in general really really sucks or sometimes it's just mandatory. Like.. a fancy italian joint we go to from time to time is Valet only. It's "complimentary" but .. of course I tip anyway. Never have I taken my Z4 there (mostly because of the terrible road conditions in the city).

Last car get together I went to that an Audi club was puttin on moved a cone to have me park up front... needless to say that shocked the hell out of me. HAHA.

Mustang being a 150k car just blows my mind. I completely understand import costs and such... but still. WOW.

Fortunately I moved from Singapore to Thailand. Cars are much more expensive in Singapore. It’s the import tax that raises the cost. Thailand is 100% for a fully imported car.

No problem. The price is listed on the BMW website, so it’s not a secret 😁.

The Thai price is THB5.129 million which is about USD145,000.

Singapore would be double that with a further USD100k for the certificate of entitlement.
