Apple CarPlay

Just purchased a 22 M40i that I plan to pick up early next week in NC and drive it back home to MN and I have a question regarding CarPlay. Will I be able to use CarPlay by just synching my phone or will I need to purchase connecting services through BMW? it would be nice to have on the drive home if it’s pretty seamless.

It is included with vehicle purchase, no expiration date on CarPlay service. BMW made a change after feedback from the market. You are good to go!

We picked up our ‘23 on Tuesday, no issues w/Carplay on the ~3hr drive home, (absent dead service spots like our other non-BMW vehicle…..but that’s solely due to some dead zones near the house where no carrier gets a strong enough signal for streaming, hell we can’t even use our phones for voice w/o WiFi in our house, lol. 😭 ).

As others have said, you should be good to go on Apple Car Play by syncing your phone via Bluetooth. The car also has a WiFi network of it's own used to connect to the phone. I also have a 22 produced 7/3/22. Due to the supply chain issues at the time, I don't have wireless phone charging pad or the BMW key available via a cell phone. Evidently, those two features are tied together. While your phone will connect wirelessly, you may want to bring a USB charging cord to keep your phone charged on the trip. The 22 Z4 has both USB and USB-C ports.

When I picked up my 2022 it was seamless. Just make sure that you have both bluetooth and wifi enabled on your iPhone and you will have a wireless connection. If you have any questions ask the dealer to do it or ask Google. You can also look for a video on YouTube.

Also install the"MyBMW" app and have the dealer sync it for you.

The only issues I have found with Carplay is when you turn off the car and either leave the phone in the car or leave with the phone for only a few mins. Like running into a petrol station. Then sometimes it will partly reconnect. As in; the phone thinks it's connected but BMW says otherwise.

And some toll booths make Carplay disconnect lol. Extremely annoying because I need to turn on/off WiFi etc and wait for minutes until it reconnects.

I've had the first issue to happen to me on occasion. If you put the phone in airplane mode and then flip it back off it will reconnect.
