I never thought this particular car had such a following. I'm not in the market for this thing but the enthusiasm is awesome!! I do like the look of that hardtop though.

Dash seems cheap in those pictures. I don't like how Mercedes does it with just a plain ol'flat squared LCD (and worse across the whole dash) and this sorta has same feel. Least currently on the 5-series and such it feels like it has substance than this prototype.

Does it though? The Z3 was a bit crap when it launched. I drove one extensively then bought a Miata. Then some half brained idea to weld an ugly top on it happened, power doubled and I bought one. The M Coupe and in some regards, the six cylinder convertibles were good, but the four banger was only adequate, at best.

Having a good amount of torque did highlight the squishy rear subframe and the trailing arm rear suspension's lazy responses, sometimes resulting in extended viewing periods out the side windows. I'd argue that the 260% stiffer coupe made all of that exploitable, while the roadsters were always a weird amount of chassis flex combined with a Dramamine-ed suspension.

Now the first Z4, that was a brilliant chassis with all kinds of feedback and a rear suspension my E36/8 could only dream about. That one was special even in the non M trims. Of course that's also back when BMW gave all cars a real, mechanical LSD.
