Anyway, these pictures look great, looks low and wide, love the fact that it has a Soft top, it's the right choice
That's a first. Never heard the F-Type noise described as horrible before so definitely to each his own

I love me a good straight six sound just as much as any other BMW enthusiast but as good as the M2 sounds, its still not a mind-blowing noise nor is the sound as definitive of an I6 as an older Bavarian six (i.e., S38, M54, etc.). To me the newer BMW I6s generally lack the crisp mechanical symphony that used to dominate in older inline sixes.

I think more than a few of us dream of a V10 in a two-seater package.
Hell, even a V8 would be nice.
I've said this before, but BMW definitely missed their chance a decade ago around the time when Audi launched the R8.
BMW had the chance to build a worthy and superior contender.
An S65 and S85 powered "supercar" packaged correctly would've easily given the 911 and R8 a run for its money.
Imagine an E89 Z4 M with S65 or a mid-engined BMW with S85 power.
In hindsight, its a pity that BMW missed out on the lost opportunities.
BMW didn't miss out on an opportunity. BMW M GmbH couldn't muster a business case to support a low volume car for production.

The BMW E85 M Roadster (06-08) only had 3,041 cars built for the North American market.

The BMW E86 M Coupe (06-08) only had 1,815 cars built for the North American market.

North America absorbed the most of the production for these cars and the previous generations numbers don't support it.

As I previously wrote an E89 with the S65 V8 (475hp) with limited options, equipment and choices of transmissions (manual or M-DCT) with a Street (Roadster) or Track FR (Coupe Fixed Roof) would have been stupendously awesome.

Supersprint would have developed 200 cell cats and some gorgeous headers that would have sounded like automotive heaven on the S65 V8!

If it started at $79,995 how many could have BMW sold in the US? 1,000 units? 2,000 units? Would have awesome to find out huh?

S85 V10 would have been great but would have been an even harder sell.

The new car will have an M version. And the world will be right again!

No, it won't. The roof will be the differentiator: G29 will be a vert, J29 will be a coupe. Yeah, sure, you'll get different badges and stuff, but it looks like they really wanted to make sure people won't cross-shop, and using a single body per brand virtually guarantees that.

And can we please stop with this "Z5" thing? Z4, OK?

That name would definitely make a lot more sense given the lack of plans for a V8-powered 50i model that every other BMW under the 5 umbrella has.

Also not a surprise.

Although, one wonders what Mercedes might have in store for the SLC. In addition to possibly switching the SLC43 up to the new 396hp version of the M276 V6, there is the new M256 I6 coming next year with perhaps up to ~500hp that could eventually find shelter under the hood of the SLC. Will BMW be left without a proper six cylinder answer just as they have failed to come up with a high output I4 with 300hp (so far - coming "soon" though, yes), nevermind upwards of 400hp like competitors are approaching?

I'm still a bit underwhelmed with what I've seen....Supra looks great, love me a fixed roof. But to be competing with 911, jaguar, and Mercedes gt-s? The car looks very BMW typical fashion bland. I'm hoping to be proven wrong I know we're still in early phases. But it needs to be more super sport (mini exotic) to me, needs more low, more wide!

just want to point out that several of you on here are suggesting you'd prefer the Toyota.
not quite sure how that can be a thing.

OK, please look at this image:

Does anyone see a Hofmeister kink in that side quarter window? No? Thought so.

This. Is. A. Supra. Period.

I understand your point but I do not want the Toyota version. Whether it will happen or not, and 99.99999% chance that it won't, I want to see BMW put out the 444hp M and a water injected GTS model.
