I don't know why so many people knock the current Z4. It looks infinitely better than an slk or tt. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. But I don't mind that they're uncommon. Of course, I'm biased as I'm on my third one. I have the M sport package and M6 reps and it looks pretty damn sporty to me!

That being said, I would kill for a redesigned Z4M coupe. I hope BMW listens!

agreed, love verts but soft top is a deal breaker for me otherwise id probably be in a boxster.

personally, i could not care less about weight savings or center of gravity.. if i wanted a track star, i wouldnt have bought a z4. more importantly, soft tops are such an eye sore and more prone to theft.

You need to go drive the current Boxster S.

Simple otherwise.... Stay in a good zip code and garage it.

I agree. It is the dynamics that have been neglected. I owned a first gen Z4 and it was for its time a sharp drive. The new one hopefully will have the looks and the talent M and mainstream.

Not confirmed?

Toyota has set a timeline for the launch of thier GT86 and larger Lexus coupe (6 series rival shown in Detroit).

Both cars are parallel with BMW sister platforms.

The Lexus LF-C has nothing to do with the joint venture with BMW.

for those of us that like converts, like hardtops, and do not like cloth tops... looks like the future may not hold that option for us with BMW... although, it is/was just a rumor:

SCOTT26 earlier you gave us these renderings/drawings. Are they still accurate? I really love the design, it would be by far the most beautiful car in the segment

If they make it right and price it right it'll sell.
Amen...!!

The way I read that, is that nothing is confirmed for M models

What do you mean "for its time"? It's still a sharp drive compared to the current Z4 and 3 series.

And the weight argument is not a valid one either, since the clothroof has no stability for the chasis whatsoever they need to strut up the whole car to make it stiffer. Meaning more weight. They should have taken the current E89 Z4 Roof Mechanism and use carbonfibre plates.
So, I'm sure you realized after you posted this that the two images you posted show different stages of camo, and that the new mule has additional body cladding on it. Right?

Amazing how they copied the carbon concept and say pretty much what BMW insiders say about the next 6.

True but the game has moved on since then and I am not comparing it to either. The Boxter is the standard.

I've been thinking about this all morning, and it may just be lust clouding my thought process, but I bet this is how things shake out:

- z5 looks like the sketches above
-the talk of a reborn/revitalized sports car image, the 2 CSL concepts (clearly they're interested...), the fact that CSL branding is coming back soon, Scott suggesting the csl hybrid power plant may make Z production... All of these seem like clues to me that we'll see a Z5 CSL at some point

The same sentiment applies for the forthcoming Z3 against the replacement for the GT86.

You cannot really see much as they have cleverly and intentionally applied panelled camouflage to the bodywork to disguise every single line and detail. But it is an incredible looking car developed from the design of the Vision ConnectedDrive and 328 Hommage Concept cars. But larger and more stretched.

The Z5 will utilise a Carbon Core which will be highly advanced for its segment.
The Z5 is to spear BMWs revitalised sports car programme to adhere to a unique philosophy similar to BMWi but for the Sports Car and Performance segment specialising in lightweight materials , advanced construction, individual design and dynamics. Engines will start from a unique four cylinder to a potentially powerful Power eDrive model with up to 500 PS and eBoost which was used under the body of the CSL Hommage/R.

After the Roadster is implemented a Coupe will follow. As are potential M Models. But nothing is fully confirmed for those as yet.
Looks great! Should turn out properly sporty and focused. The only thing I am not a fan of is the hood cut line, but hey, sometimes compromises must be made.

On that note there is a market for a coupe as well as a convertible Z car. M coupe anyone?

I'm hoping it will share components with the M models, same way 1 series shared with e9x M3, and M2 with f8x M3/4. Even if if architecture and mounting points are shared it will make for easier swaps.

I'm running M components on my e89, but damn shame I can't swap the diff, and rear brakes.
