Wow - no stick for the new Z4 either? All models? Just not in US?
Crazy - initial rumors were that the Z4 would have a manual (just speculation, of course) and there were even 'spy shots' of a Z4 test mule that clearly had a manual, but I guess they can change their minds. This is horrible news, even if I don't love the looks of it (admittedly only the 'concept' version so far) and wasn't likely to buy one anyway, but it coincides with the madness regarding the new M340i not expected to have a manual either. The end is near!

I think the answer to the question is actually, the CHINESE don't drive manuals, so why would BMW make cars that has manual transmission. Most of what we're seeing is BMW simply understanding that U.S. and EU market dwarfs in comparison to the potential in the Chinese market, and they're now making cars for the Chinese, and what "we" get is the crumbs that's left. Expect China to be the biggest "importer" of BMWs in the next 5-10 years. And the next 2 generations of BMWs to be designed for Chinese sensibilities (technology, luxury, soft and supple rides, electrification, more automation...etc. in place of sporty handling, racing heritage, driver's involvement...etc).

I don't care who doesn't buy cars or who can't drive a stick. A two seat coupe/convertible without a manual option does not make sense. (Since there is no curmudgeon or soap box emoticon)
I'm waiting for an automatous driving 2-seat sports car. Experience all the thrill of driving (or looking like you are driving) without needing to do so!

Many don't even have licenses...it's a very, different, generation from that perspective.

No MT? Oh Boy, I'll never sell my Z3...
I mean: What is "roadstering" than having all the controls in the hands? Driving the small tricky serpentines of Corsica or Elba without MT would make no sense for me. |

No manual is a big mistAke !
This is going a flop like the previous Z4. I guess BMW really wants us to buy Porsche... F this BM. We havent see a true successor to the Z3. |

I'm surprised that people are surprised that the car will not have a MT. The writing has been on the walls for YEARS you guys.
Why should MT be offered when absolutely no one buys them, and I'm talking about US and EU. Personally, this is exactly why I'm keeping a close eye out on the M2 Comp. Could be one of the last 3 pedal M cars available. If not this, then I would say next M3/4 is probably the end.

For some silly reason BMW still thinks they can compete against the SLK (SLC). So they aim for that demographic (who don't care about MT). Then the people who want MT gets screwed so they turn to Porsche for a real sportscar experience. BMW loses doubly in the end.
It happened before, and sadly it'll happen again. They should have tossed in the letter "M" on the E89 to improve sales... it's not like that letter stands for Motorsport any more than it stands for marketing. |

Yes, the car on the driver's side of the Z should be the supra.
The camo makes the body panels of the Z look a lot toned down compared to the concept. I hope it is closer to the concept without the camo. |

I would be ok with it if there is an M version with 6MT offered. The M2 6MT take rate in the US shows there is demand. |
