Missing headlight adjustment hole covers
My Z4 was missing two of these covers over the headlight adjusters. Oddly, according to the dealer, they say many on theirs (not just Z4s) are often missing some!
Anyway, that minor kind of stuff bothers me so I ordered two covers. $6 each. |

I think he is saying BMW saved a few cents by not installing them and assuming many owners would never notice (how many owners today ever look under the hood anymore?) and if they did, would pay the ridiculous $6 each if they discovered the ommision out of warranty.
That would also explain those hideous aluminum pipe strut braces, as well. Almost as cheap a thing that can have been made to do the job. |

Checked and mine are missing too. I've looked under hood before but the missing covers didn't register until now. I wonder if it is deliberate or accidental?

Actually, though I do regularly pop the hood to do a little cleaning from time to time, I probably would have never noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. You just cost me $12 so I'll have to skip Starbucks in the morning. Thanks a lot! |

Yup, that confirms what the dealer said. Seriously! BMW couldn’t splurge a few cents on a $50-75k car for something as minor & stupid as that! The part number can be found under one of the caps that IS there, otherwise the Parts Dept will have trouble finding them. (Under section of the Hood body parts)

Add me to the list of people that never opens their hood. I haven't opened the hood of a car in years. Can't remember. Didn't even know these things existed.

I’m falling into the “missing 2 covers” camp

With so many people in the "Missing" camp, and no one yet reporting that they have covers, maybe BMW did it on purpose for some rational reason [other than to save 10 cents [or whatever] per cover].

Well, one person said they had all 4. I cannot image any reason NOT to have those covers in place. Though honestly, its not like they perform any real special needed protection. I debated removing the other two, so all 4 holes matched, but I knew I would be bothered by that. They simply cover the access to adjust the headlights. The answer could be as simple as they are installed, already in place on that liner, in production, but removed when the head lights are adjusted by whomever, and they can’t be bothered to put them back in. I haven’t even driven my car at night yet, nor tested the alignment, so I don’t know how well they are aligned.
