BMW built it. No one bought it. By the end of its production run BMW had to throw a $10,000 trunk cash in the car just to move them off the lot. I don't think BMW is dumb enough to fall for THAT again.
I ordered my e86 M in 2006, got it after 5 months, Jan 2007. Still have it.

I've bought five other bimmers after that, currently own 4. Obviously would buy a new one without being price sensitive even though cars in Greece are seriously expensive. I would assume there are there are a few thousand of devotees in the US, let alone the rest of the world.

Had it not been for the e86, I would have probably never bought a BMW.

Can't imagine BMW factors in people like us in any business models of theirs.

I think that this type of car is value accretive to the brand far beyond sales figures suggest.
