Well as far as commuting from Cary/Raleigh - it's really not that bad here. It would probably take you about 30 mins once you get the short cuts down. $1200 a month for rent in a 1/1?!?! I guess stupid expensive isn't the right word then... those sound like Washington DC prices! The neighborhoods around Cary are pretty nice so you go as high as the millions and as low as the high $100k's. $250k sounds about right for a decent house. The scene up here is pretty good too if your into music and pubs/bars/clubs. Ever heard of Bonnaroo? Also the ocean is about 2hrs east (ahhh... the outer banks) and the mountains about 3 hrs west (Blue Ridge Parkway... fun road to drive the bimmer with!!)
