I drove my sDrive 20i home about 200 miles from the dealer a couple of days ago. I kept it below 4k mostly - driving very sedately - with one necessary and fleeting traffic induced buzz up to 8k, and a couple of brief 6k’s. I’ve done a couple of urban drives since.

I do like to ease my engines in, although I too have read that many people like to run them in hard (the argument being to ensure max bhp availability IIRC). I have had many new vehicles over the years, cars and bikes, and always gradually increase (and vary) the load over the first 1000-1500 miles, then do what I want. I’ve never had any problems and I’m sure I read that modern engines are run in artificially at their respective factories these days anyway.

As an amusing side note, the Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 run in limits were so high you’d get arrested attempting to get anywhere near them during normal street riding! Just looking at the throttle put you at double the speed limit in the blink of an eye!
