From an engineering standpoint, full electric is the way to go. Right from the get go, it’s obvious that it’s impractical (today), and manufacturers are recognizing that.

While I’m not a fan of hybrids at all (buying 2 problems instead of one) it’s a good way to develop a long term reliable and safe battery system. Then, as technology allows, transition the vehicle to be more reliant on battery than ICE, ultimately eliminating the ICE.

Since manufacturers are seeing the error of their ways in jumping straight to electric, it lends hope that vehicles like the Z4 still have some life left. Indeed, hybrid is used in several high performance exotics, and I think appropriate in that application.
