I paid $700 for my self-propelled Honda HRX217 back in 2014. It's still cranking along and starts on the first pull, even after sitting for 3 months in a shed for the winter.

Prior to this mower, I took my dad's 1992 Honda mower back in 2006, installed a new OEM carb ($30) and fixed a gear in the self-propelled unit ($15) and that mower ran until 2014 when it spun it's rod bearing.

You might pay more for a Honda mower, but when they last so long and parts are readily available, why in the world would you waste your money on anything else for a non-riding mower? I've converted all my neighbors to Hondas after they saw how long they lasted. They might cost a lot upfront, but they'll outlast anything else on the market by a mile. I've also got a Honda snow blower too. Same thing. Bulletproof after 8 years of use.
