I'd rather some people go to jail. Until there is some real bite behind lax security practices which forces proper INFOSEC behavior, we're going to see this crap repeated in the future.
I've had numerous conversations with various organizations about security and behaviors are driven by the minimum of what they have to and not what is proper. INFOSEC doesn't appear on some CXO's balance sheet as tied to any revenue generating investment. Jail time and substantial fines are what makes people do the right thing.
