3/4 - M40i
5/6 - M50i
7/8 - M60i

To me that would be consistent. No N74-powered 8 Series? That just means there's no M Performance model. No S63-powered 7 Series? So, no M model.
Still, it's consistent, just in a different way: the top non-full-M is M Performance.

As for the absence of N74 in G15, I guess they figured 500hp is enough for a smaller and lighter car.

Still hoping that they call the N63-powered G05 X5 the M50i instead of the 50i.
This could still happen: the decision to convert 850i to M850i came pretty late in its development cycle. Plenty of 850i testers on the road without M bits right now.

I should add, if/when the V12 is nixed from the 7, and they make the N63-powered 750i the M750i, that would at least clean things up. But I am not anticipating that to happen this generation, or even next. The V12 will survive as long as those who buy it keep demanding it; and I expect they will until the bitter end. That all being said, I recall that Audi has already confirmed that this is the last generation for their A8 W12 (article here http://europe.autonews.com/article/2...ng-big-engines, not quite confirmation, but the intention is there anyway).
G12 LCI will have M760Li, so it could stay in production until the next 7 in 2022 (G51/G52?). At that point, I would expect V12 to become RR only.
