Or not. 72k+ miles on mine, always sits in the tray, never overheated, or got any hotter than when charging with cable. 3 diff iphone models, with and without cases, and never had the the issue--lucked out on that, but if I could exchange all the other issues for an overheating wireless charge dealio, I would in a heartbeat.
Oh, and yeah, I get it, I am in the minuscule minority of not having the overheating charge problem, but I am in Central TX, and it does get pretty warm (quite a few 100+ days every year), and my top is down (unless a heavy rain), phone in the tray 100%, routinely use apple music and phone maps / guidance while in the car, etc.
