So, people are all but forced to update to a newer phone to stay current with software and security. Especially when, for example, apps require a certain software version.
Overall there doesn't seem to be a significant difference between a Note 8 and Note 10. That's why people aren't rushing out to buy the newest phone because the "upgrades and new features" just aren't that significant to justify the expense.

This is no different than what happens in the computer world. Microsoft has stopped security updates for various OS'. But there has been some outcry about the Samsung announcing no more updates for the S8 being that it's only 2 generations old.
