When I was in the Navy, I was stationed aboard USS Nimitz. When we would come into Pearl Harbor, they would ask for volunteers to "man the rails" in our dress uniforms. Every time, I would volunteer. I would also make sure I would stand on the port side of the flight deck so I could see the Arizona Memorial. They would bring us to attention, we'd offer a hand salute, and they would play Taps as we went past. It was very moving.

We deployed with Nimitz in 1998. I was stationed in USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73) as the DCA...in Pearl. Lots of history there. Great place.
