There is a definite separation between the models from A to S to RS, but I will say that with each evolution of the model their step up in ability and use what is learned with the RS and adopt to the lesser versions, that is why many including myself are of the opinion that the latest B8 S4 is every bit as good if not better than the B7 RS4 from the previous model.

The B7 RS4 had a much better engine than the current S4! It revved high, was responsive, and had one of the best 6 speeds I've encountered! Not to mention it looked mean and sounded tremendous! The only thing I'd consider better on the S4 versus the RS4 is the interior and the differential
