Its not really the same thing apples to oranges. The 8ZF is a classic single shaft type AT that uses internal clutch packs to manage the planetary gear sets. A torque converter sits where a clutch would be on a manual transmission.
The DCT is a fully geared transmission (same as a manual box) with two shafts each having its own clutch external from the gear set case.
In the Porsche PDK (DCT) supplied by ZF Friedrichshafen most of the parts are also used in the Porsche MT.
