I had a house that had a leaf guard installed, kind of a wire mesh thing. Enough small stuff got through, and bigger stuff accumulated in the roof valleys and mulched itself through, that I had to get under the stuff to clean my gutters anyway. Lots of cuts on my hands, even with gloves on, doing that.

My last house had screens for the downspouts, which also got clogged pretty fast leading to the gutters overflowing. Stupid. I took those out, flushed the downspouts with a hose and that seems to work fine.

I’d rather have big eaves and no gutters if I could move the water away from the foundation.
