Normally I prefer red dots for better and quicker aiming but if you're on a challenge with vary ranges the advantage drops.
Iron sights are almost the best, I shot a German G36 once wheres kinda dot optic is stock mounted and at ranges above of 150m the red dot makes it difficult to judge the hits into the target because my aiming eye was slightly overstrained between the close dominance of the dot and the bulletholes onto target farer behind.
