Hoover dam is good. I'm sure the Grand Canyon is worth the trip also. My fav 2 beaches in San Diego are La Jolla and Ocean beach.
Ooof.. OB? Don't go to OB. Parking sucks, full of transients, and it smells down there. There's a decent pier there if you really want to see it. The nicer beaches are:
- Mission Beach for Belmont Park (www.belmontpark.com) and people watching on the boardwalk.
- Pacific Beach for just hangning out (lots of bars around and is home for many party-going college students.
- La Jolla shores for hanging out on the beach. You can kayak the caves here too.
- Many go to Sunset Cliffs to catch the sunset.
- Or if you're feeling adventurous, you can hike your way down to Black's Beach where clothing is optional.
Here's a list of popular beaches in SD. Two that aren't on the list are Del Mar and Moonlight, which are usually calm, and decent.

I think you'll also be here during race season at Del Mar. It's pretty cheap to get in and can be lots of fun and exciting. Something to check out, I think.
