I totaled my '16 Mazda 3 S GT 6 speed last year and haven't missed that wheezy, inefficient thing for a second. I want to love Mazda, I've had a few Miatas, and my dad had his FD Rex until this year. But their current engines are awful.
Well, if you are buying an SUV for speed, you're doing it wrong. You're stuck with the Trackhawk, GC SRT, turbo Porsche or maybe the X5/6M then. Unless you want older then toss in the TBSS, but be ready to put a trans in at some point. I agree that, outside the Miata, Mazda sucks right now. They need a new Mazdaspeed model.
Don't mean outright speed, just the ability to keep up with traffic. The current Mazdas are just dogs, and combined with poor real world efficiency, why bother? Fit and finish and material quality is nice, but until they get their motors sorted or add a hybrid boost, they're pretty darned boring.
