This car doesn't even need to perform as well on a track, if it's close it's good enough. It has always been close.
It fails in that it doesn't offer a manual, as the Porsche does.
But price-wise, they're not even competing in the same category. Pick another contender.
Again: if this vehicle performs close to the Boxter S on track (we know it's quicker in a straight line), it's a winner (for auto lovers).

And that's the problem. Enthusiast will take into account that there is no manual and flock towards the Porsche(even the base model). Normal consumers looking for a fun roadster will be thrown off by the price. Z4/Z3 sales have never been that great to begin with, but no manual and a price tag so close to the Porsche will definitely not help sales.

No, I don't think they will. Porsche lost me with the 4cyl. Only the spyder (with its rumored RS mill) is interesting.
