So in order to do business and remain within the good graces of Chinese Politburo foreign automakers have to use CATL as their battery supplier.

The WSJ quoted that Daimler executives stopped a technical presentation and said "We're not interested", "The only reason we're here is that we have no choice, so let's just talk about the price"

I wonder if the pressure to have access to the Chinese market is so great that BMW was forced to be the first customer of CATL's first European based factory? If so, it does not bode well for European automakers or upstart Euro battery manufacturers.
