So, had the appointment with the "genius", think his title is stretching it a bit.
All he did was the same things as I've been advised by the helpful comments on this thread. Soft reset & refresh the apps.
Advice is to leave it a few days, the apps might re-appear over the next few days. If they don't I need to book my car in to the service centre.
He did manage to get my digital card working so not an entirely wasted journey.
