This reminds me of the pictures of the VW/Audi diesel scandal cars that are just sitting out in the Mojave Desert graveyard with all the scrap jets.

What really floors me is that we, as a society, have labeled all those diesels as dirty and awful when in reality we could have come up with some sort of salvaged/conditional title program and traded them to people that are otherwise driving just as environmentally unfriendly (if not much more so) and definitely less safe older cars but cannot afford anything else. I was no fan of cash for clunkers, or generally anything similar, but in these types of cases where we just let things go to waste it seems so senseless.

I remember an environmentalist once telling me the greenest car you can buy is a used one, because no new resources have to be spent building the car. I am by no means an ardent greenie, but it was an interesting and applicable take.
