Don't have an answer, but do have a related question. There's a number of in-ear pods with pass-through capabilities. Some like the NuHeara have a good seal and good isolation (not earth shattering audio quality though) and clamp down loud noises. Maybe same for latest AirPods. Not for range day, of course. But it makes me wonder about how any of them might behave in an emergency situation. If they only offer 15-20dB protection that might save your hearing or a year of tinnitus. Any research out there on the topic?
