Indeed. But to be clear, the G12 V12 was never in question (at least to me). Its the following generation and beyond where it gets more cloudy. As I said, the V12 itself will live indefinitely due to Rolls Royce where the 12 cylinder engine is the only one on offer, a fact which will doubtfully change soon. But in the 7 Series, with the V8 from Alpina and V12 making similar power, there is clearly overlap. It is true that this situation has existed for some time, including with BMW's Mercedes Benz S Class and Audi A8 competitors. But with hybrid drive becoming more and more a feature that itself carries some prestige, it is not impossible to imagine the V12's importance becoming diminished in this class. There will likely come a time when the top of the line 7 Series, A8, and S Class are all using a V8 plus electric motor. Who makes the first move is yet to be determined.
