The cycling masks with the exhale valves are defeating half the purpose. If you have the virus and cough or sneeze, they do nothing to stop the water droplets. Those valves just open up and let it all out. Masks serve two purposes, to reduce outgoing water droplets in the event you sneeze or cough, and to reduce incoming ones in the event you walk through a cloud of droplets. Non-N95 masks won't come near the effectiveness of N95s, but they're better than nothing. The cycling masks only perform one of the intended purposes. Those masks are more for cyclists who suffer from allergies.

I wish I still had my Racal PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) from my asbestos abatement days. Now that'd freak some people out.
