I'll share my Irma story since we're talking about hurricanes, power loss, and heat.

My GF at the time and I fled to Pensacola. We came back to my house in Palm Harbor after the storm had passed and had no power in the entire neighborhood. My dad lives in the next town up just a block from the water, so my thinking was we could go there an open up the windows to catch some breeze and get a little relief from the heat (they were in CO at the time). When we pulled into my dad's neighborhood, all of the power was out there too. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, ALL of the lights on my dad's house came on. His was literally the only house on the entire street that had power, and it never went off in the week that we stayed there until the power came back on at my house.
That was pretty fortunate. We lost power for 10 days during Frances and 4 or 5 days during Jeanne (or vice versa). I bought a 17.5kw portable generator after that and had it wired to the panel. We went at least 10 years before needing it for Irma and then for only a day or two. I’m prepared with it again but hope it’s not needed.
