I think you are reading too much into the comment. I was watching the Sky F1 broadcast and they mentioned it there. If anything, the Sky F1 team are accused of favoring British driver's. Red Bull gained the same advantage in China last year and nothing was said no one complained either.
Honestly, it's a valid point no matter who you support. The idea of the VSC was to neutralize the race. Allowing anyone to pit and gain the advantage isnt really fair.
