Hey guys I figured I could get some insight as to a good dSLR for my first one here. I currently have a Nikon S1 point and shoot and to be blunt, it sucks. I'm interested in photography and I always use my camera to take pictures of things I sell on ebay.

I asked a "camera-nut" friend and he told me I should go with a Nikon D80 because I'll "grow into it" and won't require an upgrade any time soon (I told you he was a bit of a nut). I want to keep the price reasonable. I see a lot of people here like the Digital Rebel XTi and the D40/D40x (not sure of the difference).

This is my first dSLR and I don't want to outgrow it so quickly but at the same time, I have next to no experience with messing around with shutter time, appeture, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
