The secondary problem is that current lithium-ion battery technology limits charging speeds. I've heard that there is an experimental commuter railroad being built somewhere in Europe where the trains are powered by supercapacitors, that can fully charge in a minute if fed ample power. They plan to have automatic chargers at every station, and the train sucks up enough power to reach the next station while it sits at the platform waiting for passengers to get on/off.....
