I bought my Saab wagon from a dealer in Allentown right slap bang in the middle of the recession 9 years ago. Still DD it today, had only 15,000 miles on it and with the currency at par i saved about $15K vs buying here.
Mrs and i drove there and drove it back, spent a weekend in Philly as we were right there.
Discussion was funny with dealer over the phone given the dark financial times;
Me: That Saab, what price can you do me
Dealer: It's listed at 20K but we can negotiate if you have the money
Me: Have the money?
D: Yes, do you have money
M: well yeah I am buying a car
D: Cash?
M: Cash cheque yeah
D: Make an offer
M: 16K
D: jesus H....do you have the money?
M: Why you keep asking that??
D: 4 of my last 5 cheques bounced
M: let me make this clear, i will deliver a cash cheque, in person, no strings attached, right from my bank.
D: Sold ... but has to be cash cheque or deal is off
Man things were bad.
