A shit ton of ICE cars catch on fire in serious accidents. A number of fatalities are people trapped in burning cars. The moral of the story is that anytime you have a lot of potential energy stored in a device and smash it to pieces it is likely to be liberated. The major difference is going to be that battery fires are harder to put out.
