Look at when the S2000 was designed as well, starting 1997...

Put new tech in the S2000 and you'd have better lap times, but I'd be sad if that were one of the goals. That car is really fantastic without any numbers, it just needed some tweaks.

Imagine if it came in at the same 2,809, same trans (absolutely brilliant), same open-top, driver-focused fun, but had a lightweight V6 with the torque down low.

The Achilles heal of the S2000 was always the lack of torque (not that it needed more, but that 98% of people wanted more). The car, IMO, is still very relevant today with nothing but a torque bump.
