By many accounts, the 982 Boxster/Cayman is not selling well and will likely to be phased out in 2020 when the current generation was due for replacement. There has been no indication for Porsche that there will be another generation of the Boxster/Cayman, and if there was, we should have seen prototype mules running around for the last year or so.

If this is true, along with the potential cancellation of the Mercedes SLC, the Z4 will not be left with much in the way of direct competition.
