G29 Z4 Wind Deflector Retrofit Guide

So I made the mistake of ordering my Z4 without the wind deflector from the factory. I've retrofitted it this week and thought I'd post a guide.

First advice, if you haven't yet ordered your Z4 it is much easier just to tick the option! It is much cheaper from the factory (just £170 in the UK or bundled with the comfort pack) and saves a lot of hassle.

However if you've already ordered or have picked up a used G29 without then read on...

The following parts are required and are pictured below:
  • [1] Wind Deflector (54 34 9 481 141) £197
  • [2] Windschott (54 34 7 457 891) £110 x2
  • [3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 683) £26
  • [3] Trim roll b (51 46 7 459 684) £26

So total price comes in at £469 in the UK, £300 more than the factory! I decided to skip out on the 'Windschotts' to keep the price down, as you can still fit the deflector without.

Step 1 - Remove the rear cover from the hoops. A little force may be needed but it will just pull out and unclip

Step 2 - Unscrew the front cover from the hoops. This is otherwise the item known as 'Trim roll b' in the diagram and requires replacing the wind deflector compatible version. You will need a Torx T15 screwdriver for this. 5 screws

Step 3 - You'll then be left with the bare hoops. Follow the reverse of Step 2 and screw on the new front covers.

Step 4 - Reattach the rear covers and insert wind deflector! Job done

Here is a photo of the finished result and another diagram showing how it all clips together:

Hope this helps! The wind deflector is certainly well worth having and at highway speeds makes a huge difference to refinement, I'm extremely pleased with it
