There was some video I saw about this. The jist was many dealerships are suggesting short intervals so they can make a quick buck off of you. The use os synthetic oil has stretched maintenance intervals. It's up to you on what you feel is safe. Certainly doing frequent oil changes won't hurt anything except your wallet and the environment.

If you're that concerned about the condition of your oil and what is appropriate based on your driving situation/engine condition, send off a sample of your used oil to get analyzed. This is the only way to know 100% what is going on in your engine.
