3 on the tree and A/C was a rare automotive luxury. Heck, we didn’t even have it in the elementary school I attended in Dallas. I don’t know why I would have expected it in a car.

I can remember trips in the car with the windows down, still very hot air coming in but at least it was moving. Sitting in the back of the station wagon, in the fold up seats. Stop for gas, under $0.35/gal and parents agitated about how much it was costing “these days”. Get a coke from the machine and it was warm because the vending machines were not yet cooled. A candy bar from a machine in summer was a “chocolate mess” because those weren’t cooled either.
