The Oban is another one, a good drink but just overly expensive for what you are getting. I think most of the Highland Park are good offerings for an entry level of smoke (even the 12 is pretty good IMO)
I was a lot more into Scotch but anymore I really find the American whiskey to hit my palate better, that and Islay Scotches so maybe take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I think Japanese whiskeys make for decent recommendations since they are generally smooth and easy to drink. Most of these could be considered overpriced, though. The only one I would really go back and buy is the Macallan 15 (I don't drink much in one sitting).
I cycle between Japanese beers (specifically craft ones), vodka (Moscow Mules), and whiskey.
