Ok then, lets take some competitors in the same niche:

Porsche boxster:
986 manual: 1275kg
987 manual: 1305kg
718 manual: 1310kg

Why does porsche only need 35kg extra over that 20 year timespan and needs bmw 135kg or 215kg extra?

Lets take another competitor

Miata:
NB: 1065kg
NC: 1110kg
ND: 1058kg
(these are curb weights, exact models may vary a bit but not much)
Mazda also didnt need to raise the weight by 135kg or 215kg.

So no, its not almost every single manufacturer.
I'm sure bmw isnt alone in this, but competing cars (the boxster is probably the z4's main competitor) dont always need this massive weight increase.
BMW failed on this point, and every single review underscribes that.
You can perfectly go back in time for a comparison. Saying that you cant is a really easy (but not substantive) argument.
