Manual Supra!

Really is too bad that enthusiasts couldn't and likely won't get this for the Z4. Clearly... it could be a significant upgrade for those wanting to do a little extra.

Quite frankly I great up in Europe. In Europe you need to be handicapped to have an automatic transmission. Everyone has a mana. My grand ma drives a manual.

However the new automatic transmission like the one on the z4 are not the 3 speed automatic transmission in Oldsmobile or the Mercedes "4 matic"

The transmission in the z4 and the software modes are incredible. So much more precise and power than a manual.

I would never get this car with a manual transmission.
I did have a manual in my Peugeot 104 when I was 18.....

I think the automatic transmissions in our cars is the biggest weakness and greatly handicap the fun factor.

The lag when downshifting is too burdensome to
Ignore, unfortunately this problem persists with all
modern day BMWs

Hum. I don't have lag downshifting or upshifting
What do you mean lag?.

Every model year Toyota has improved the Supra. Maybe that's against BMW ethics to make (even minor) changes like that each year, but it would be nice if they at least improved the suspension of the Z4 like they did with the Supra.

The two firms have a different approach to business and it is obvious that the Supra a much younger customer that likes to trek out their cars.

I would tend to agree with this. I sold my manual Fiat, and I think will be quite happy with the responsiveness of the BMW autobox (faster changes than I could in the Fiat). If I was going to track/autocross the supra would be a better bet.

(Although, if I was going to autocross, then the Fiat/Miata in manual would be better).

It's a shame DeMuro couldn't test drive it, yet. We will see. I will say, the supra looks better in person than in pictures/videos (still not for me, though).

Also...is that...satin/matte white??

I will 100% buy this Z4 if the LCI offers a manual.

I’d prefer the S58 too, but that seems more wishful still.

Today when I was stuck behind some slower traffic on some fun roads, and for lack of anything better to do, I was thinking that I would have enjoyed rowing my own gears while I repeatedly dropping back and then catching up again.

And I hope that neither Toyota nor BMW impose any weird rev-limiter hang or anything to meet emissions requirements. At least not in sport mode. That's apparently a thing now with at least some manufacturers, disappointingly.

Yeah, but I'm finding the Z4 has weird bounce/waggle in the rear end. Maybe I didn't notice it as much in my older one, but I notice it a lot in the new one. Some reviewers (throttlehouse) even comment about something 'off' in the rear dampening.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; the ZF8 is awesome (loved it in my F type too).....but it would be nice for there to be an M40i manual option for those that want it.

Agree, BMW should give people a choice with a 2 seat car. Would still get the 8ZF as it does everything so well, especially how its used by my wife & me.

That said I do have a manual 5 speed in another car that gets used a lot over the NC two lane black top roads & the Tail of The Dragon on the NC./Tenn., border.

There is nothing like a sunny Sunday morning drive down some back roads with the top down, the smell of fresh dew, wind through your hair - and rowing your own gears

Don't think a 3400lb 382BHP 6MT will really interest me when I have a 2200lb 525+BHP 5MT car already.

Note: No under car lighting on the Cobra. Expect the exhaust would cook them.

Ditto; zero interest in a Supra and my sportscar must be a roadster

You don't offend me either.
I just think you are a poser with a replica cobra. Wait. You just have a chassis? You are maybe leasing it like the other poser? Lmao.
So wait. You are one of those that has a replica nothing. That has a tubular chassis but pretends he has a Ferrari? Lmao.
That's the definition of a poser. What else you have a fiero with a Ferrari kit? And a blue start button ?
Don't have a start button, uses a key.

Chassis was the start.

Add the power pack & suspension.

Some sheet metal

A few engine mods.

And you wind up with a nice car that will outrun this.

Some people like to hang lights on the bottom of their cars, some like to modify their cars, others like to build some of their cars, while some will leave them factory stock.

Personally do all of the above except for the bottom lights.

I have definitely felt this. Getting on it full blast around 80+mph at on ramps the back end seems to squat up and down to get traction, almost bouncing. I have a 30i but with all the bells and whistles (m diff, track package). I've never experienced anything like it. Almost a trampoline like effect

Place where I notice it most is a hard launch & the 1/2 shift, occasional 2/3 shift. Found it stabilized quickly without a lot of driver intervention.

Have not noticed it a speed 80/85mph. Normally I am set up for on ramps & only make light if any throttle movement in the turn.

Also interstate average around 85MPH with traffic flow,70MPH limit, and have not felt it making lane changes to pass.

Bottom line is the car is definitely traction limited in some areas.

Mine is at full throttle coming out of the turn, it bounces. I wonder if dsc was off it wouldn't behave that way?
